Empowering Newcomer Entrepreneurs:
DIBA recently hosted a successful BRQ (Business Readiness and Qualification) event designed to support newcomers with a business background from their home countries, as well as those interested in starting a small business in Canada.
The event created a welcoming space where participants could explore the opportunities and challenges of launching a business in a new environment. Many newcomers arrive in Canada with valuable entrepreneurial experience, yet they often face barriers such as unfamiliar regulations, limited access to financing, and a lack of local networks. This event aimed to bridge those gaps by offering practical resources, expert guidance, and peer connections.
The session also included inspiring stories from successful newcomer entrepreneurs who shared their journey, challenges, and valuable insights.
DIBA remains committed to empowering immigrants and newcomers by equipping them with the tools they need to thrive economically and socially in their new home. Events like BRQ not only educate but also foster a sense of community and confidence among aspiring business owners.
Women’s Empowerment
DIBA was proud to participate in a recent program hosted by the Milton Women Council as part of our Entrepreneurial Skills Development and Mentorship Program. Our Executive Director, Amina Ahmady, led an informative and engaging session focused on Licensing and Certifications — a crucial step for any aspiring entrepreneur aiming to start or grow a business in Canada.
Amina provided valuable insights to a group of 15 women, many of whom are exploring ways to turn their skills, passions, and past experiences into successful ventures in their new home. The session helped clarify important steps around business registration, permits, and sector-specific certifications.
But this event was more than just an information session — it was a celebration of the strength, ambition, and potential of newcomer and immigrant women in our community. The atmosphere was filled with inspiring conversations, shared experiences, and genuine encouragement among participants.
Through partnerships with organizations like the Milton Women Council, DIBA remains committed to empowering women on their entrepreneurial journey — from idea development to business launch and long-term growth. We firmly believe that when women succeed, entire communities thrive.
